vote for PS3\XBOX 360!!!!

Remember last year when Amazon nearly killed itself trying to sell the Xbox 360 on Thanksgiving day for $100? Well their special Black Friday-ish deal voting game is back, with a new twist. There are six rounds of products, and you get to vote on one from each round. Voters for the winning deal will be randomly selected to get that deal on purchase day. The first round consists of a Nintendo Wii for $79, a 40gb PlayStation 3 for $139, or an Xbox 360 Arcade system for $99. Right now the Wii is winning with a whopping 55%, so it looks like that will most likely be the deal come buying day. Can you imagine not only getting the hardest to find console for Christmas for $170 below retail? Do dream it - be it. Hit the link below and vote!

A Marathon gas station in Ohio is the scene of an unusual blue shadow that many people believe is a ghost. The image was seen sitting for a half-hour, then it flew on top of a car and floated in the air.

500 billion billion moves later...

With uniform pieces and diagonal moves, checkers is simple enough for a child to learn. But to achieve absolute mastery of the game, scientists needed to run hundreds of computers for nearly 20 years, analyzing roughly 500 billion billion scenarios.

By completing the project, a team of Canadian researchers have officially "solved" checkers, creating an unbeatable program that will choose the best move in every possible situation. This achievement represents a major benchmark in the field of artificial intelligence, which uses games to develop complex problem-solving strategies for computers.

In 1994, a program named Chinook beat the reigning human world checkers champion, a feat that preceded Deep Blue's famous chess defeat of grandmaster Gerry Kasparov by three years. But even after proving dominant over humans, finishing the calculations required to solve the game required thirteen more years of research.

"Had I known 18 years ago it was this big of a problem, I probably would've done something else," said Jonathan Schaeffer, who led the project at the University of Alberta, "but once I started, I had to finish."

Extreme Tech is having a month-long computer case mod contest. Each week the site picks a winner and then on August 20 they will announce the grand prize winner.

Last week's winner was this amazing Dragon Case, a computer case carved out of Black Walnut and painted. This thing is a work of art, especially the dragon. Hit the link for the case description and more photos of both the Dragon Case and the runners' up.

Dreamcast guitar!

Somehow, it seems as though guitar controllers for the home console department are getting more and more popular and realistic, and this has driven people who are great with their hands to create their own versions of a guitar controller. Here we have a defunct Sega Dreamcast masquerading as a guitar, featuring a trio of strings (the other three broke). It looks pretty dreamy, but chances are the sound won't be up to par but passable instead. Sad to see a great console like the Dreamcast being relegated to guitar fodder now. One thing's for sure though, creativity isn't quite dead just yet, and you would probably agree with me that this Dreamcast Guitar would look great when placed beside the Guitar Heronoid.

Windows of the future!

CNet has the news that Microsoft is currently aiming to release the next version of the Windows operating system in about three years. Previously known as Vienna, the OS is now simply known internally as '7'. After achieving a quality product, the article states, Microsoft's big goal with 7 is to recapture a regular release schedule for their operating system product. From the article: "Like Vista, Windows 7 will ship in consumer and business versions, and in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. The company also confirmed that it is considering a subscription model to complement Windows, but did not provide specifics or a time frame. Next up on Microsoft's agenda is Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista, which is expected before year's end. The discussion of Windows' future isn't surprising, given that Microsoft has been criticized by business customers for delays related to Vista. Many business customers pay for Microsoft's software under a license agreement called Software Assurance."

a short story i wrote...7 years ago!

My Wild Night as Santa's Elf

One morning I was a normal teenage boy. Well, I don't know about the normal part, anyway, I was Steve. The very next morning I was an elf?! Poor deminuative Steve! At first I thought it was a dream, but I soon realized it wasn't when I fell out of bed because my legs weren't long enough to reach the floor. Then I pulled a huge chair over to the window so I could pull the shades up. It was an awful morning. It was one of those winter mornings where when you open the shade the room gets darker. There was S-N-O-W on the ground! "Way to much sn...wait, what's that rumbling sound?" I slowly turned around and faced the beast, it was my cat. Unfortunatly I was so dwarfed that it could have been called a "catosaurous".
Now my cat, whose name was Joe, was not any ordinary cat. He was a very, very, very, very, very, very fat cat! Then the most remarkable thing happened! He talked! Joe actually said meow! wow!!!

My catosaurous is white by the way. Since I had nothing else to do besides go insane, lose my mind and forget what I forgot, I decided to tell Joe a "blonde joke". "Joey" I ask, "what did you do when you roamed into the flee market?" no response. "you itched! jah jah jah!!!"
Suddenly a phone rang. So I answered it, "Hello?" The voice at the other end, "Hi, ho, ho, ho! will you be an elf and make toys for me?" "Well..." I responded.
"Great! Come on over!" In a matter of seconds, I was sucked into the phone and ended up in santa's workshop! What a journey! I was freezing in those boxers i had on! "brrr!" Then, out of the gray, santa came and took me into his workshop. What a sight! millions and millions of toys were being built and wrapped for millions and millions of children!
Then I saw Mrs. Claus. "Hello Mrs. Claus" I said. She responded, "I'm not Mrs. Claus I'm her daughter."
I said, "You mean you're Mrs. Claus and her daughter? How can you be your own mother?!"
She started laughing and then when she stopped she said she was going back to the "Imagination station".
"No! Are you crazy, do you want to become your own grandma?!" I said to her as she approached the "Imagination station" Santa came back and wanted me to make toys for all the good little girls and boys. I asked what the big chug was talking about. That was the end of me! That didn't fly over nearly as well as I was flying after old st. Nick delivered a knuckle sandwich right in the grill!

                               THE END!
