Vista vs. Linux!

Once again another failed attempt to hack linux. Wait isn't Linux used to hack though?

brokenlappy.jpgCanSecWest has claimed its second victim. After last week's pwnage of a MacBook Air, there were two notebook computers left to win by hacking them: one running Widows Vista and one running Ubuntu Linux. The Linux box remained uncracked, but hacker Shane Macaulay successfully compromised a fully patched Vista system using a Flash exploit.

According to The Register, the attack took a good deal longer than Charlie Miller's two-minute subjugation of the MacBook Air. Macaulay's attack was initially neutralized by Windows Vista Service Pack One, but after some more work he and his accomplice Alex Sotirov managed to route around it with a little javascript.

The perpetrators get to keep the Fujitsu U810 and $5,000 as a prize. Might we suggest that the first things they do is to wipe the Windows install and load it up with Hardy Heron.

intellectual technological post

"A corollary to 'Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic' is that sometimes users have to resort to what I call 'computer voodoo.' You don't know why it works, you barely care how it works, but you find yourself doing the strangest things because it just seems to work. I'm talking about things like: smacking a PC every 5 seconds for an hour to keep it from stalling on a hard drive reformat (with nary a problem after the reformat); or figuring out the only way to get a PC partially fried by lightning to recognize an ethernet card, after booting into Windows, is to start the computer by yanking the card out and shoving it back in (thereby starting the boot processes). What wacky stuff have you done that makes no obvious sense, but just works?"

Flock's creators call it a "social browser", due to its ability to interact with popular social networking web services. Such web services include Flickr, Facebook, Del.icio.us, Technorati, Photobucket, and various popular blogging and news aggregation services.

this is soo wrong!

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Confronted with mounting privacy protests, Facebook.com has scaled back a Web monitoring feature that notifies one's friends when the Facebook user visits affiliated Web sites, the company said on Thursday.

In a statement, the Palo Alto, California-based company said it was making a several changes to a recently introduced feature called "Facebook Beacon" in the wake of a petition signed by 50,000 Facebook users to scale back the feature.

The changes announced by Facebook promise to give users some improved controls over what information about a user's Web activity is broadcast to friends and also improves notifications to users before releasing user data to other Facebook users.

Nothing says holiday cheer like free software!

To save money this holiday season, you could break out the construction paper and rubber cement and make something really, um, nice; or you could take a quick cruise on the Web, download a few free applications, put them on a thumb drive and really make someone's holiday. It's your choice. No pressure. Put down the safety scissors, please.

So you want to give the best this holiday season? How about a nice bundle of free software? Hold on, this isn't a lesson in Scrooge 101 but a way to give some really good software on a shoestring budget, or to lend a hand to charities, struggling college students, underprivileged kids, even help out the un-geeks who want to do more on their computer but haven't a clue about software.

First, pick up some USB Latest News about USB drives or CDs so you'll have something to put the software on. Add brightly colored paper, some ribbon and a bow, and voila!

here is the link to visit for cool free software available for download, and other sites to see for more info. no need to  risk life in a human stampede for this, perhaps a sprained finger?

The screenshot below is real. There is no disk compression, ramdrives or imaging utilities involved here. Using EOS software I performed an embedded installation of Windows 98SE to a small 500MB hard drive. After booting to the 3xplorer GUI the starting point was in fact a 17MB install. All extraneous files were resolved and removed, leaving the smallest, leanest Windows 98SE ever!! boots in seconds, is wonderfully fast and stable as a rock. Mind you it doesnt do a whole lot, though it still has the explorer desktop and command environments fully functional. Floppy, mouse, serial ports etc. all there and working!

ps3 the worlds most powerful supercomputer!

FAH has signed up nearly 700,000 PS3s to examine how the shape of proteins affect diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

The network has more than one petaflop of computing power - the equivalent of 1,000 trillion calculations per second.

One petaflop, that is, after everyone stops playing Guitar Hero and Resistance: Fall of Man. rumor has it that the machine is only using 50-70% of full potential during game-play. hmmm..i wonder of MGS4 will unlock all that power. so in other words this console is more powerful than your PC...when its superclocked!!! only a matter of time before someone figures out how to read minds with these things eh? LOL
